I write this article with a very Thankful Heart.
Once again, you the SGV Bowlers have opened your hearts for our very deserving
BVL and the California Disabled Veterans. At this moment you have donated over
$9,000.00 with two events yet to be held.
We will be holding a Senior BVL No-Tap tournament and our Annual BVL Luncheon
where we will be recognizing the BVL Tournament winners.
Our Annual BVL tournament held on Sunday, November 11, 2007 was a very big
success. Everyone said they had a very good time.
The pre-bowling entertainment was fabulous. Our sincerest gratitude and deepest
thanks to “The Haywires” from the Charter Cove American Legion Post #755 in
Covina for your outstanding presentation of good old fashion 30’s and 40’s music
that many of us have grown up with. Thank you, Laura Bradshaw for coordinating
this group for us.
For those of you that were not there, you missed out on the fun time we all had.
There were 52 bowlers in the first squad and 56 bowlers in the second squad.
Thank you all for your support.
Two baskets were raffled off and the lucky winners were: Steve Knuchell of Covina
Bowl. He bowls in the Senior Men’s Trio and Sonia Mendiola out of West Covina
Lanes. Congratulations to the both of you, “Let’s do it again next year”.
There was an anonymous donor who gave a $500.00 donation. A $100.00 and several
$50.00 donations were also given. You folks are indeed the best bowlers and the
most generous people in California.
As a veteran myself, I thank each and every one of you for your love and respect
you have shown them through your donations.
Just before bowling and right after opening ceremonies, our veterans and active
personnel were asked to step onto the approach and were given a mug with a
special message on them in honor of their service to our great country. It had a
BVL logo on one side and an inscription which read “Thank you for your service” on
the other. Then they received a loud ovation from all present.
